Florewood
Plantation Sewing & Loom Room
Plantations were largely self-sufficient, especially regarding
ordinary things. Sewing and mending clothing was done by slaves in this building.
During the winter, when farm tasks were fewer, the loom room was particularly
busy with spinning wool, garment making, and quilting.
What evidence
indicates that this building was used a great deal during the
winter?

Answers:
- the large fireplace heated the room sufficiently to allow slaves
to sew and weave
