What does this 1970s resort town on the panhandle of Florida
represent: authenticity or placelessness?
Answers:
the developers of Seaside wanted to re-create the feeling of a 19th
century New England seaside village -- note the architectural details (porches,
towers) and building materials (wood, metal roofs)
nothing like this ever existed along the Florida coast or elsewhere in
the South, so is this an authentic or placeless place?
the 19th century social conditions that were reflected in porches and wooden fences no longer exist
today
