Commercial
Gentrification
Is this a placeless or authentic place?
Answers:
Toronto: Yorkville, a middle class 19th century neighborhood turned
into gentrified commercial area
authentic place: old buildings with new uses; diversity of colors
placelessness: these kinds of places were developed in response to the
placelessness of the 1950s suburbs, the 1960s and 1970s urban renewal, and
CBD revivals. When every city has a Yorkville are they then not placeless
too? These are evaluative issues to which there are no definitive answers.
Just play with the ideas!
