Las Vegas: Hispanic Areas

Tourists don't explore the "ordinary" places of Las Vegas -- places that Las Vegas shares with other U.S. cities -- but geographers do! The Hispanic population is concentrated on the northeast side (16 percent of Las Vegas city); more in the separate city of North Las Vegas city (22 percent). In metropolitan Las Vegas, Hispanics account for 11 percent.

Housing varies from middle class to poor. The windows in this suburban-style split-level home are covered up to keep the house cool and save on air-conditioning costs. Housing in the poor parts of the barrio have a distinctive characteristic: most residential lots have wire-fences. Businesses in the barrio are also clearly distinguishable.

The same categories are used for Hispanics as for Blacks.
