Chicago: Places
of Work
Chicago was the center for agricultural products from the Midwest
and the center of production for farm
machinery as well. The
many railroads that
were centered on Chicago facilitated these spatial interactions. Many of
the European immigrants worked at the Chicago Stockyards on the Southside.
Except for the gate, the area has been cleared and is now the site of an
industrial
park.
McCormick Reaper Works, after which McCormick
Place, a huge convention
area on the Near Southside, gets its
name
