Disneyland: Main Street Map

Once visitors buy their tickets, they must all enter Main Street -- a physically and historically shared experience, at least in Disneyland!

Main Street is a childlike place in built and social form purposely unencumbered by real social, political, and economic forces. It is a childhood recovered in which we would rather not be called to do chores! We are harmoniously happy to relinquish any real say in the workings of this community; better to leave it to Daddy Disney while maintaining the illusion that we are in control.

Despite Disney's statements, Disneyland is a singularly undemocratic, thoroughly paternalist, and ultimately escapist place. [Source: Kevin Archer's book review of Richard Francaviglia's Main Street Revisited. University of Iowa Press. 1996.]

So what do we find on Main Street?
