The kinds and number
of
businesses that
are found in Chicago's Chinatown are very distinctive.
Chinese cuisine is a favorite one of non-Chinese people in the United States. Asian-American communities are also perceived to be "safe" yet "exotic." Hence, the extrordinarily high concentration of restaurants (44) with a Chinese population of only 10,000!
Grocery stores are also very common, serving both the Chinese population here and throughout Chicago, and, indeed, throughout the Midwest.
The large number of associations serve Chinese business people and promote social/cultural activities. Family ties and social ties continue to be very important in business and social activities.
