Cotton Picking Machine Sheds

Before mechanization of cotton in the 1940s, these machine sheds also housed what?
Operating all of this equipment on these large farms required many workers. Check out their housing.

Answers: mules, they pulled the machines.  Horses were not as well suited to plantation agriculture; they were
susceptible to the hot summer sun and required better feed and more careful treatment than mules.

Before mechanization, cotton was picked by hand, by cheap black and white labor, and earlier, by black slaves.
