Portugal: Historic Villages

 


Obidos is a well-preserved 14th century fortified hill village, depending on tourism today.

Sabugeiro is a working village built out of granite in northern Portugal.
 

Monsanto is built in and among granite boulders and is a very popular tourist destination.

Linhare is a restored 15th-century castle village in the granite Serra da Estrela, the highest range in Portugal (much of it over 5,000 feet).

Piodao is the most striking of the schist and slate villages in the Serr de Acor.
