Ethnic groups: Quechua 30%; Aymara 25%; mestizo (mixed European and Indian ancestry) 25%-30%; European 5%-15%. One of the largest Indian populations in Latin America. Of the 8.3 million, 60 percent live on less than $2 a day. Coca cultivation and use is distinctive to Bolivia, Peru, and Columbia.
