Portugal: Historic Villages -- Linhares
Linhare is a restored 15th-century castle village in the rugged, granite Serra da Estrela, the highest range in Portugal (much of it over 5,000 feet). Although all of the stone houses are been restored using governmental finds, no tourist facilities -- cafes, restaurants, and hotels -- were present in 2003.
