Quetzaltenango, second largest city in Guatemala. Scattered rural settlements predominate in the Highlands (map on the left) in contrast to concentrated fincas on the Pacific Lowlands (map on the right). The town was destroyed by a 1902 earthquake; hence, the Art Noveau and Art Deco architecture around the main square. The yellow building was design for expensive shops, in European style, but alias it it today most empty and underutilized.
