Antigua churches. Antigua is a typical
Spanish colonial city: grid-pattern streets with a central plaza
and several other minor squares around which are located the major Roman
Catholic churches, most dating to the colonial era if earthquakes did not
destroy them. Saint Herman helped the poor with medical
care and his church is now a pilgrimage site; hence, stalls are
selling candles and rosaries. Easter was being celebrated with parades
(see the floats) and decorations inside churches for several weeks
prior to Easter Sunday. Click on a photo to see a larger version.
