Geographic and General Skills |
| The Department of Geography at the University of Wisconsin-Eau
Claire prides itself in preparing geography majors and minors with the
necessary geographic and general skills to be successful in their
professional careers. Michael Solem, Ivan Cheung, and Beth Schlemper
compared the skills of professional geographers and the needs of
employer organizations across major sectors of the U.S.
workforce. The results were published in The Professional Geographer,
Volume 60, Number 3, August 2008. You can read the complete
article. The
graph below is taken from the article and shows the geographic and
general skill areas needed to be successful. The variety of topics and
order of importance is already reflected in the UWEC Geography programs.
