Jersey Challenge

This fundraising effort connects alumni players with current student athletes who today wear the same number on their backs. The objective is to secure annual funding to underwrite the expenses of every player. Non-players who wish to support this friendly competition can make a gift using the Give Now button at right and designating Women's Softball (456). Thank you for supporting Blugold Athletics.

Goal:

Create teams of alumni players who wore the same jersey number throughout the 28-year history of Women’s Softball, obtain 100 percent participation and raise $2,500 per team.

Here’s the score:

It takes $31,500 a year to operate the Women’s Softball Program at UW-Eau Claire, plus an additional $25,000 to cover the Spring Break playing tour expenses. This makes for a total annual budget of $56,500 to support 20 players and four coaches. Dividing that among the players, each Jersey Team is challenged to raise $2,500 from among its members.

Get in the game!

We are seeking a team leader to connect with her fellow alumnae who wore the same jersey number. The average number of players who share a jersey number is 10. Ready to step up to the plate? See Coach’s Tips on right for team leaders.  Be a winner Jersey Teams that meet the goal will be recognized at the 2013 Alumni Weekend Game April 20-21 and named on the Jersey Board located outside the Women’s Softball offices.

Be a champion

Attain the goal and commit to meeting this funding challenge for three years and you will be honored as CHAMPIONSHIP TEAMS for Women’s Softball.

How to give:

All Jersey Team Challenge gifts will be directed by the UW-Eau Claire Foundation to the Women’s Softball Fund. This will ensure that your gifts will be tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law.  This also allows anyone who works for a matching gift company to use her corporate match as part of her commitment. See how to make your gift. Designate your gifts as: Women’s Softball (456)

Ideally, we would like a minimum funding commitment of three years, which will enable the program to receive and build upon a solid source of annual gifts.

Not a player or former player? Not a problem! You can support the team by making a gift using the Give Now button at the top of this page and designating Women's Softball (456).

Coach’s tips

As team leader you can build excitement and camaraderie among Women’s Softball alumnae and meet your team’s goal.

While there is a major element of fun in this project, it is important to remember that we are asking you to invest in the long-term health of Blugold Women’s Softball. The current players are doing a number of things to invest in themselves, including participating in a rigorous leadership development program.  They also are required to use their own funds to play for the Blugolds – on average each current player spends $400 to be part of our team. We want to be in a position to ensure that the very best players can be Blugolds without having to worry about how they will fund their continued athletic involvement in college.

• Feel free to offer challenges to teammates and friends who wore different jersey numbers. You have pride in the program and have likely retained your competitive spirit. We want this to become a friendly competition among Jersey Number Teams.

• Make it all fun and games until somebody gets a shirt! Once you get 100 percent commitment and reach the funding goal, the Women’s Softball Program will provide all of your teammates with a Jersey Team Challenge T-shirt with your jersey number so you can maintain the team connection and wear your number.

• Feel free to work on other ways your team can build unity and “show off” to other jersey teams.
