The core of UW-Eau Claire’s operating budget comes from modest state support and rising student tuition. However, additional funding is essential for UW-Eau Claire to maintain the level of excellence in teaching, learning and service that has become expected of this outstanding public regional university. The generosity of individual and corporate donors becomes increasingly important as UW-Eau Claire, like all colleges and universities nationwide, faces significant challenges:

• Decreasing federal and state support as a percentage of the overall university budget.
• Ever-increasing competition among top colleges and universities for qualified high school graduates.
• Growing numbers of students (at UW-Eau Claire, more than 70 percent) who receive financial assistance.
• An increasingly competitive marketplace for outstanding new faculty.
• Operating budgets that provide the barest of essentials when it comes to instructional equipment and materials.
