EAU CLAIRE - A new scholarship has been established for an outstanding student from Waukesha County planning to attend UW-Eau Claire. The Brian Stricklin Memorial Scholarship was established with gifts received by the UW-Eau Claire Foundation in memory of Brian Stricklin, a UW-Eau Claire alumnus and honor student, who died suddenly at his home in Waukesha in August 2004.
Stricklin's father, Glenn Stricklin, said the family felt that providing a $1,000 annual scholarship would be an appropriate way to honor his son's memory. Brian Stricklin was an honor student at Waukesha West High School and graduated with honors from UW-Eau Claire in May 2004.
"In all of UW-Eau Claire's communications you see the word excellence," said Glenn Stricklin. "In Brian's nine semesters in Eau Claire and one semester abroad at Southern Cross University, we found that his educational experience exceeded that expectation. Hopefully this scholarship will allow another high caliber student to enjoy the same experience."
Brian Stricklin, a business major, was an avid gamer and was an active member and officer of the UW-Eau Claire Gamers Guild. Preference will be given to scholarship applicants planning on majoring in business and/or who have an interest in gaming, environmental protection or study abroad opportunities.
