Nursing education is continually changing as health care technologies advance and as we work to prepare nurse leaders to meet the demands of a more globally aware and diverse society. We are continually working to update our teaching methodologies and skills laboratory equipment to be current with the realities of modern nursing practice and to prepare for the future. We also are taking steps to ensure opportunities for cultural immersion experiences for all our students. At the same time the College of Nursing and Health Sciences is growing as we admit students into our undergraduate accelerated program for second degree students and our Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program. Additional resources are needed to manage these areas of growth and change.
Your gift to any of the following will help enhance student learning experiences and provide valuable faculty resources. The amount in parentheses indicates the amount required to meet current obligations. Gifts of all levels are welcome and appreciated.
Equipment
- Support the purchase of educational versions of the computerized dispensing systems used by hospitals. These dispensing systems are needed for the Eau Claire campus and Marshfield site skills laboratories. ($19,000 each)
- Provide replacements of skills laboratory equipment as it becomes outdated or nonfunctional. For instance, new IV and feeding tube pumps are needed as well as replacement manikins.($10,000)
- Purchase an electronic health record system, complete with simulated patients. This system would enable students to practice charting patient cares and assessments, review patient histories and laboratory reports, document medication administration and engage in quality improvement activities. ($1,000-$5,000 annual fee)
- Purchase and maintain computer laptops for the nursing skills laboratories at the UW-Eau Claire campus and Marshfield site. ($9,000)
Interdisciplinary learning
- Support the university’s strategic plan to expand experiential, multicultural and interdisciplinary learning by providing funds to support nursing experiences with diverse populations in Alaska, at an Indian reservation in South Dakota and at a birthing clinic in Texas. Funds would enable these experiences to continue and would make it possible for more undergraduate nursing students, including those in our accelerated program for second-degree students, to participate.
($3,000-$10,000 would allow a clinical group of eight students and one faculty member to participate in one immersion experience.)
Student support
- Establish an accelerated BSN program scholarship. This rigorous year-long program for nontraditional students makes it difficult for students to work during the course of their studies. ($500 annual, $15,000 to endow)
- Contribute to the Nursing Licensure Exam Support Fund, which supports students with financial need who are at high risk of not doing well on state board exams, many of whom are of diverse backgrounds. The monies would enable these high-risk students to attend NCLEX review courses, thereby increasing their ability to succeed with the licensure exam. ($500 annual, $7,250 to endow)
- Establish a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Program Scholarship. These graduate students are enhancing their clinical leadership skills as nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists and nurse administrators to promote quality health outcomes for individuals and communities.($500 annual, $15,000 to endow)
