Recent Generous Gifts Support
Many University Programs

Recent generous gift commitments to Fulfilling the Promise of Excellence include:

  • $25,000 from Katherine and Bruce Rhoades will help support either an annual Collaborative Leadership in Education lecture for UW-Eau Claire students, faculty, staff and community members or a project that fosters collaborative leadership between a faculty or staff member in the School of Education and an area educator or administrator. The lectures and projects will be efforts of the UW-Eau Claire School of Education’s newly established Center for Collaborative Leadership in Education. The Center is part of an ongoing initiative by the School of Education and UW-Eau Claire to serve the students and programs of area school districts. Katherine Rhoades is associate dean of the School of Education.
  • $10,000 from UW-Eau Claire alumna Rose Terrell, through a planned gift that will endow a scholarship for students who are special education majors involved in their student teaching experience. “I am encouraged that other young teacher-hopefuls will experience the success and fulfillment that I have through their educational programming at UW-Eau Claire,” said Terrell, a 1974 UW-Eau Claire special education graduate. Terrell, of Fountain, Colo., has been a teacher for 30 years and currently works with special needs students at the middle-school level.
  • Annual support from Dr. Thomas and Debra King for the Victor H., Madeline F. and Karen A. King Memorial Scholarship continues to fund two graduate student scholarships each year: one in special education and one in communication disorders. To honor Thomas King’s parents and sister, the Kings established the endowed scholarship fund in 1996 to help graduate students preparing to serve those with severe disabilities. Thomas King, who earned his master’s degree from UW-Eau Claire in 1972, is a UW-Eau Claire professor of communication disorders. Debra King, outreach program manager for UW-Eau Claire Continuing Education, received her master’s degree from UW-Eau Claire in 1992.
  • A pledge of $1,000 a year from Roland and Ruth Rockwell, Madison, to support the Rockwell Award for Outstanding Cooperating Educators. Each year the award will recognize a teacher who works with UW-Eau Claire student teachers in an area school. The Rockwells also support similar awards at other UW System schools.
