Investing in Faculty and Staff
and the
Futures They Inspire
All who attended UW-Eau Claire have fond
memories of their favorite teachers and mentors people like Leonard
Haas, Laura Sutherland, Grace Walsh, Morris Hayes, Bill Zorn, Marguerite
Coffman, Lorraine Missling. Today, the tradition of excellence they
helped establish continues to flourish, and the result is great learning
and personal growth. Through the Fulfilling the Promise of Excellence
campaign, we seek investments to support and enhance the work of all
our exceptional faculty and staff.
An
upcoming challenge for UW-Eau Claire is the fact that one-third of our
faculty and staff will retire in the next 10 years. Additional resources
will be required to attract and retain outstanding faculty and staff
in a highly competitive national marketplace. They will shape the universitys
future.
Salaries are only one factor in attracting faculty and
staff to UW-Eau Claire. They also look for a commitment from the university
to their ongoing development as educators. To promote faculty and staff
distinction, the university seeks investments for the following:
-
Making time available to faculty so they may revise
their teaching techniques and integrate the latest technologies
into the classroom.
-
Enabling faculty and staff to participate in professional
activities that both expand their capabilities and allow them to
represent UW-Eau Claire nationally and internationally.
-
Supporting younger faculty in the critical early
stages of their careers, whether by facilitating their research
agendas or helping them undertake innovative approaches to teaching.
-
Furnishing labs, equipment and student assistants
for faculty-led research efforts.
-
Creating endowed chairs, which will allow new faculty
positions to be added in priority areas, thereby improving faculty-student
ratios and increasing opportunities for faculty-student interaction.
-
Attracting distinguished visiting faculty whether
academic figures from other institutions or practitioners from business,
government, the arts or media who can benefit the university
and the community by the infusion of new and different perspectives.
