| Recent alumnus starts scholarship while still in grad school
Shane Butterfield believes the privilege of a university education establishes a duty to give back to others. He believes this so strongly that he has made a gift to establish a history scholarship fund while he is still in graduate school. Giving while still in school is both an honor and a responsibility that accompanies being a representative of UW-Eau Claire, said Butterfield, who graduated from UW-Eau Claire with a bachelor's degree in history in 2002 and is currently in graduate school at the University of Rochester. "I think it is important for me to give so both my conduct and commitments appropriately reflect the university," said Butterfield. "I give because of my fondness for the UW-Eau Claire experience, my profound love for Wisconsin and my hopes for its future. Wisconsin's representatives and social leaders often get their start in schools like UW-Eau Claire, and I hope to help make the experience as enriching, productive and inspiring as possible." The Butterfield American History Scholarship will be awarded for the first time in 2005-06 to a junior or senior history major who is also a Wisconsin high school graduate interested in American history. The scholarship is intended to support and encourage an exceptional history student interested in attending graduate school.Butterfield's scholarship support is recognized as a contribution to Fulfilling the Promise of Excellence, the UW-Eau Claire Foundation's comprehensive campaign to benefit UW-Eau Claire's people and programs.
