| Anonymous couple to make $1 million estate gift RELEASED: May 10, 2005
EAU CLAIRE — An anonymous couple has notified the UW-Eau Claire Foundation of plans to provide $1 million through their estate. When it is realized, the $1 million gift will go to the UW-Eau Claire Foundation's Endowment for Excellence Fund, which is used to support the university's top priorities. "When we receive gifts to the Endowment for Excellence Fund it gives the Foundation and the university the flexibility to help support the university's highest priorities at any time," said Carole Halberg, president of the UW-Eau Claire Foundation. "Currently our top priorities are student success and faculty and staff distinction." Flexible funds are critical as the university works to attract and retain outstanding students, faculty and staff, Halberg said. "A gift of this magnitude for this fund is particularly significant because flexible dollars are particularly difficult to secure," she said. The Endowment for Excellence Fund supports faculty/student research, international education, scholarships and awards, and the Honors Program. "The Endowment for Excellence Fund also helps the university continue to develop areas of excellence through scholarships and student support," said Halberg. "These areas of excellence are what help separate UW-Eau Claire from other regional public universities." In 2004-05 more than $1 million was transferred from the Foundation specifically for such scholarships and other recognitions, Halberg said. "That significant of an investment can make a huge difference to a number of our students," she said. The gift is recognized as a contribution to Fulfilling the Promise of Excellence, the UW-Eau Claire Foundation's ongoing comprehensive campaign to benefit UW-Eau Claire's people and programs. To date, the UW-Eau Claire Foundation has secured more than $42 million in cash and commitments for the current comprehensive campaign. The goal of the campaign is $50 million by the end of 2007.
