Dr. Jefford Vahlbusch
Jefford Vahlbusch, Associate Professor of German (Ph.D., U Michigan 1998), joined the Department in 1999 after teaching stints at colleges and universities in Southern Ohio, Kentucky, and Maryland. Born in Michigan and fiercely fond of snow--"it makes food and books taste better"--Jeff and his spouse, Dr. Audrey Fessler, a faculty member in UW–Eau Claire's English Department and Women's Studies Program, are delighted to be back in the north. In 2009, Jeff became director of UW–Eau Claire's University Honors Program, and now divides his time and energies between the German Program and the Honors Program. Jeff's areas of scholarly and teaching interest include 19th and 20th century literature and philosophy, literary reception, classical literature, and the history of Marxism. He is currently working, among other projects, on a book-length study of Hermann Hesse's reception in the USA, especially in the counterculture, anti-war, and student movements during the 1960s and 1970s.
