Dr. Johannes Strohschänk

Dr. Strohschänk studied German and French language and literature at the Universities of München and Tübingen. After emigrating to the United States, he received his Master’s degree in German language and literature from the University of South Carolina and his doctoral degree from the University of California, Davis. Besides chairing the department for seven years, he has been teaching German language, culture and literature at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire since 1988. Dr. Strohschänk published in the area of German drama before turning his interest to German immigration to Wisconsin. He teaches an honors course on this subject. Over the years, many students have been given the opportunity to work as research collaborators with Dr. Strohschänk. He currently prepares a number of writings for publication, in particular a critical history of German immigration to Wisconsin.
