Types of Aid

Types of Financial Aid

We administer three types of aid:

  • Gift Aid
  • Loans
  • Employment

Scholarships, grants and tuition waivers are considered gift assistance - they do not have to be repaid.

Student loans, on the other hand, are just that - loans - and must be repaid with interest.
Repayment, however, is usually deferred until the student leaves school.

Another type of assistance is student employment. Work study is a type of student employment based on financial need. Students must earn this type of assistance and receive a pay check based on the hours worked.

When you apply for financial aid through our office you will be considerd for gift assistance, loans and work study. Becaue some funds may be depleted part way through the year, it is always best to apply as early as possible. Students who demonstrate the greatest need receive priority consideration for aid on a first come, first serve basis.

Aid is based on enrollment status for undergraduate status as follows: fulltime, 12-18 credits; 3/4 time, 9-11 credits; 1/2 time, 6-8 credits; or less than 1/2 time, below 6 credits.
