Annually-occurring utility outages allow for preventive maintenance and repairs that prevent unplanned emergency outages due to breakdowns.
This summer's planned electrical outage will occur on Sunday, May 18, 2014. The outage will last for approximately 8 hours starting at 7:00am. Buildings that will be without electricity during this time will be the Library, Old Library, Thomas, and Putnam Halls. The Library has emergency generator power to serve emergency functions. Thomas Hall has minimal emergency generator power and Putnam Hall has none. Because the central chiller that serves the lower campus chilled water distribution system is in the Library, all buildings on the lower campus (except Haas Fine Arts and Human Sciences and Services) will be without air conditioning during this outage as well.
This spring's planned steam outage will occur on Saturday May 17, 2014, 6:00 p.m. through Tuesday, May 27, 2014, 4:00 p.m.
As a result, no potable hot water will be available during this outage except in Chancellor's, Thomas, and Murray Halls, all Hall Director's apartments, Zorn Arena, Brewer, Human Sciences and Services, Hibbard Hall, Library, Nursing, Crest Wellness Center, Ade Olson addition, Haas Fine Arts (isolated areas), and Phillips Hall.
None planned at this time.
