Literature Emphasis

We study literature for a variety of reasons because we: love to read; try to understand all rhetorical uses of language; learn about people and human behavior; and culture both reflects and transmits itself in its art. Students who elect a major in English with an emphasis in literature will spend a lot of time with texts, not merely as consumers but as analysts and critics. If they accept all the challenges that literary study affords, they will prepare themselves well as active, critical citizens who know how to learn from every situation and every artifact of culture.

The current requirements for this particular emphasis are available by consulting the most recent catalogue (you may need to scroll down to find the relevant section). When viewing degree requirements, be sure to consult the specific version of the catalogue applicable to you. You should also be sure to consult with your adviser regarding your particular degree requirements.
