The Department of Sociology and the Women's Studies Program at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire invite applications for a probationary tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor with a joint appointment in Sociology and Women's Studies. The position will start August 20, 2012.
Responsibilities
- Applicants will be expected to teach three to four courses each semester (depending on class size) in the Department of Sociology and the Women's Studies Program.
- The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in research and scholarly activities, provide academic advising to students as assigned, engage in service to the university and community, and participate in department/program, college, and university committee work.
- Teaching introductory and upper level coursework in Family Studies, LGBTQ Studies, Sociology and Women's Studies will be required.
Qualifications
- Doctorate in Sociology, Women's Studies, Family Studies, LGBTQ Studies or related field from a regionally accredited higher education institution is required.
- ABD applicants must complete the terminal degree by May 20, 2013.
- Successful applicant will have expertise in both LGBTQ Studies and Family (either Family Sociology or Family Studies).
- Preference will be given to candidates with a demonstrated background in Sociology and Women's Studies.
- Salary will be commensurate with college teaching experience.
- Demonstrated ability to teach courses in the Family Studies minor (which is housed in Sociology) and courses in LGBTQ Studies Certificate (which is housed in the Women's Studies Program) will be considered assets.
The Department/Program:
The Department of Sociology has eight full time faculty members and offers a major and minor in sociology. The Department also has administrative responsibility for an interdisciplinary family studies minor. There are approximately 220 sociology majors and minors and 100 family studies minors. The Department enrolls approximately 1250 students in Departmental courses per semester. The Women's Studies Program is an interdisciplinary academic unit with twenty-seven Affiliates drawn from departments and disciplines campus-wide. There are approximately 60 Women's Studies majors and minors. In addition to a major and minor, the Program also offers certificate programs in Women's Studies and LGBTQ Studies. The Program also enrolls approximately 700 students in Program and cross-listed courses per semester.
