The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire seeks applications for the position of Financial Aid Counselor. This is a full-time, annual professional academic staff position with an official title of Student Services Coordinator. The selected candidate will join an experienced and dedicated Financial Aid team. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2011, or as soon as possible thereafter.
Responsibilities
As as member of the Financial Aid counseling team, responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Managing a file load of student cases, completing verification, reviewing appeals, and revising awards as necessary.
- Administering specific aid programs as assigned by the director to ensure programs are properly awarded, reconciled, and in compliance with regulations.
- Working in conjunction with Academic Advising, the Dean of Students office, Counseling Center and other student services areas to resolve students' issues.
- Maintaining a sophisticated understanding of :
-
- the federal needs analysis,
- the financial aid application process, and
- federal, state, and institutional regulations and policies.
- Presenting comprehensive financial aid and budgeting counseling to individuals and groups.
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution.
- Experience in counseling or higher education student services.
The following qualifications are preferred:
- Professional experience in a Financial Aid office within higher education;
- Experience with an integrated student service administrative system;
- Experience with the PeopleSoft Financial Aid module;
- A master's degree;
- Understanding of current best practices in financial aid administration;
- Evidence of excellent verbal/written communication skills;
- Demonstrated organizational skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, multifaceted work environment;
- The ability to contribute diverse experiences and perspectives to the department and the university.
- Dedication to quality student service.
- Understanding of the contribution of financial aid to the university's recruitment and retention efforts.
