Computer Science: Assistant Professor

The Department of Computer Science at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire invites applications for a probationary tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The position will start August 20, 2012. 

Responsibilities
 

  • Applicants will be expected to teach courses as assigned in the Department of Computer Science.
  • The chosen candidate will also participate in research and scholarly activities, supervise undergraduate student research projects, provide academic advising to students as assigned, engage in service to the university and community, and participate in department, college, and university committee work.

 

Qualifications
 

  • Ph.D in Computer Science or a closely-related field (required by August 1, 2012).
  • Requirements for the position are:  potential for excellence in and commitment to undergraduate teaching in the core computer science curriculum, ability to engage in scholarship, ability to supervise collaborative research projects with undergraduate students, and strong interpersonal skills.
  • In making the final selection from among applicants, the following may be considered assets:
    • experience in undergraduate teaching;
    • industry work related to computer science;
    • interest in teaching applied software engineering in a project environment;
    • interest in teaching computer systems and/or architecture;
    • interest in teaching parallel computing/high-performance computing/computation science;
    • interest in innovative curriculum development;
    • demonstrated leadership skills;
    • ability to add diversity to the UW-Eau Claire campus;
    • ability to act as a role model for Computer Science majors/minors, including female students;
    • commitment to the values of equity, diversity, and inclusiveness, especially in multicultural instructional contexts. 

 


The Department:

The goal of the Department of Computer Science is to be the premiere computer science teaching institution in the Upper Midwest.  We offer an ABET-accredited bachelors degree in computer science as well as emphases in software engineering and computer engineering, and currently have approximately 200 students pursuing a bachelor's degree.  We also support minors in computer science, computational science, and web development.  Our highly collegial 7-member faculty has a wide range of teaching and research interests and actively participates in the regional and national computer science education community.
