A probationary tenure-track faculty position is available in the Department of Communication and Journalism at the rank of Assistant Professor in Mass Communications with an emphasis in advertising or strategic communication beginning August 25, 2014.
- Applicants will be expected to work collaboratively with colleagues in the mass communication emphases of advertising and public relations to further develop and deliver a theoretically grounded, contemporary curriculum emphasizing experiential learning and other high-impact practices.
- Applicants will be expected to teach in a variety of courses related to advertising and strategic communication.
- The hired candidate will be expected to engage in scholarly activity; provide engaged academic advising to students as assigned; engage in service to the department, university, and discipline; and participate in committee work at the department, college, and university levels.
- Doctorate in mass communication with an emphasis in advertising or strategic communication from a regionally accredited higher education institution is required.
- ABD applicants must complete the terminal degree by March 20, 2015.
- The ability to teach courses in account management, advertising research and planning, advertising campaigns, and related areas is required, as is the ability to integrate multimedia perspectives throughout the curriculum.
- Also required are strong communication skills and potential for excellent teaching in the department and high quality research and/or creative activity in the discipline.
- Salary will be commensurate with teaching experience.
- Additional assets include: professional experience in advertising or strategic communication, experience/interest in integrative learning and high-impact practices, the ability to enhance research or teaching in communication and diversity in the department and serve as a role model and mentor for women and/or minorities, and ability and interest in teaching other courses in the departmental curriculum.
