POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT:
A probationary tenure-track faculty position is available in the Department of Communication and Journalism at the rank of Assistant Professor with an emphasis in Advertising and Multimedia Communication beginning August 22, 2011.
The Department of Communication and Journalism serves approximately 500 majors and minors in journalism, public and organizational communication, and public relations and advertising. Faculty members emphasize the development, integration, and practical application of theories, knowledge, and skills, and are committed to the principle that communication and journalism are crucial to a democratic society.
Responsibilities
- Applicants will be expected to teach the equivalent of four 3-credit courses per semester as assigned in the Department of Communication and Journalism
- Other faculty duties include participating in research and scholarly/creative activities, providing academic advising to students as assigned, engaging in service to the university and community, and participating in department, college, and university committee work.
Qualifications
- Terminal degree in Mass Communication or related field from a regionally accredited higher education institution with coursework and/or experience in both advertising and multimedia communication is required.
- ABD applicants must complete the terminal degree by March 20, 2012.
- Salary will be commensurate with teaching experience.
- Applicants must demonstrate ability to teach courses in advertising design (including new media) and advertising campaigns, and ability to teach a course in multimedia production skills for majors across the department.
- Familiarity with current hardware and software is required.
- Additional assets may include: ability to teach large introductory course in communication, mass communication and journalism; teaching and/or research interests with a focus on audiences of color; and the ability to enhance the diversity of the department and serve as a role model and mentor for women and/or minorities.
- Also required are strong communication skills, potential for excellent teaching and high quality research or juried creative work in the discipline, and ability to contribute to the development of mass communication curriculum.
