The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire invites nominations and applications for the position of Associate Dean of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences. The Associate Dean is a 100% fiscal year appointment, held by a tenured faculty member of the Department of Nursing.  The Associate Dean facilitates and monitors Undergraduate and Graduate student issues, supports and facilitates the development and maintenance of student policies and services, and academic curriculum.   The Associate Dean provides leadership in planning college programs, oversees the Nurse Scholar and Honors programs and represents the Dean in matters related to student services. The anticipated start date would be July 1, 2012.


Specific duties and responsibilities are as follows: 

  • Manages undergraduate and graduate student issues, including but not limited to recruitment, admissions, progressions and advising.
  • Represents the Dean in matters related to student services associated with waivers, substitutions, petitions and follow-up on issues of academic standing.
  • Participates in the orientation of new faculty and instructional academic staff regarding advising for the college programs and monitors advising activities.
  • Collaborates with the Chair of the Nursing Department and the Assistant Dean-Marshfield site related to student issues.
  • Maintains liaison between the college programs and other university offices regarding student academic matters. 
  • Collaborates with the Dean's Assistant in providing leadership and direction in planning and conducting program related activities such as convocation, awards banquet and scholarship awards.
  • Collaborates with members of the College and Department including Curriculum Committee Chairs for preadmission and admission orientation for students.
  • Monitors the Nurse Scholars and Nursing Honors Programs.
  • Collaborates with the Dean in alumni and foundation activities to promote the college, such as the alumni newsletter, and homecoming walk.
  • Serves as the BSN Completion Program/BSN@Home (Collaborative Nursing Program) representative to the state-wide steering committee.
  • Collaborates with the Graduate Nursing Programs Director as related to graduate student recruitment, admissions and student progression issues.
  • Oversees the overall operations of the student services office for the college including supervising the maintenance of college records for academic and student matters and providing guidance to the Student Services Coordinators and to the Clinical Agency Coordinator assuring compliance with health record surveillance, CPR certification and background checks. 
  • Participates in the development of strong campus and community partnerships and collaborations to advance the vision and mission of the CONHS.
  • Collaborates with members of the department and college to assure updates of resources such as the website, undergraduate and graduate student handbooks and university catalogs.
  • Participates in securing grant funding to enhance academic opportunities and financial support for students.
  • Represents or acts for the Dean in the Dean's absence, and as directed by the Dean serves on campus and college committees and serves as an advisor to the Dean on matters related to personnel, governance and organization of the College and its component units and programs.




  • Doctoral degree required; Doctoral degree in nursing preferred
  • A master's degree in nursing
  • Eligible for tenure in the Department of Nursing
  • Current RN licensure in the United States and eligibility for RN licensure in Wisconsin, with WI RN license required by start of contract
  • Expertise in nursing education and educational administration.

Nursing Programs
The College of Nursing and Health Sciences serves over 800 undergraduate and graduate students, with an expanding faculty and staff.  We offer CCNE-accredited traditional, accelerated, and BSN-Completion programs, MSN programs and have a newly implemented DNP program. An accredited BS program in Environmental Public Health is also offered. The BSN programs in Eau Claire and Marshfield, WI, are connected by interactive video. The BSN-Completion program is part of a collaborative statewide initiative, providing both distance and onsite course offerings. At the graduate level (MSN and DNP programs), students select Adult/Gerontologic or Family population and role preparation in nursing education (MSN) or administration, nurse practitioner or clinical nurse specialist (DNP). With a reputation of responding to community/state needs, the College is regularly involved in new initiatives, enhancing community connections, promoting a diverse faculty and student body, and maintaining an environmentally friendly milieu.
