Department of Art & Design and Department of Computer Science: Joint Appointment as Assistant Professor

The Department of Art & Design and the Department of Computer Science at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire invite applications for a probationary tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor with a joint appointment in Art & Design and Computer Science. The position will start August 20, 2012. 

Responsibilities
 

  • Applicants will be expected to teach a total of three to four courses each semester (depending on enrollments) in the Department of Art & Design and the Department of Computer Science.  These courses may include, but are not limited to, the following topics:  Web design, HTML/CSS, computer and/or Web-based animation, and graphic design. 
  • The successful candidate will also be expected to engage in scholarly/ creative activities, supervise undergraduate student projects involving scholarly/creative activities, provide academic advising to students, engage in service to the university and community, and participate in department, college, and university committee work.    

 

Qualifications
 

  • Terminal degree in Art, Design, Computer Science, or a related field (required by August 1, 2012)
  • The successful applicant will have expertise in one or more of the following areas: 
    • Web design and development
    • Electronic media design
    • Computer animation
    • 2-D or 3-D animation programming (ActionScript, MEL, XSI scripting, etc.)
  • In making the final selection from among applicants, the following may be considered assets: 
    • Experience in undergraduate teaching;
    • Expertise with industry-standard software for Web development, graphic design, computer modeling, and computer animation;
    • Relevant industry experience;
    • Experience, commitment,  and/or interest in inter-disciplinary work;
    • Examples of relevant scholarly/creative work;
    • Interest in innovative curriculum development;
    • Ability to add diversity to the UWEC campus;
    • Demonstrated leadership skills;
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.


Departments and Program:

The Department of Art & Design has approximately 330 majors and 17 full and part time teaching staff. Degree programs include a 36-credit BA or BS in Liberal Arts/Studio, a 75-credit comprehensive BFA in studio art and design, a comprehensive BA in Art Education, and major and minor in Art History. Studio area concentrations include ceramics, drawing/painting, graphic design, illustration, photography, printmaking, and sculpture.

The Department of Computer Science has seven full-time faculty members, and offers a comprehensive (60-credit) major in Computer Science and an emphasis (42-credit) in Software Engineering.  The department also offers a minor in Web Design and Development. 

The Departments of Art & Design and Computer Science, in conjunction with the Departments of Communication and Journalism and English, have developed a Multimedia Minor designed to provide students majoring in a range of fields with expertise in crafting and delivering messages in a variety of media (print, visual, audio, video, web-based).  This minor combines courses in the four departments that will instruct how to communicate with various audiences through a range of media.  This position is designed to provide support for this program in addition to supporting majors in the respective departments.
