Ph.D. Program in Economics at American University - started 2004

How did you choose the graduate school you attended? Knowing what you know now, would you make a different decision? Why?
It was suggested by my professors at UWEC. No, I would not make another decision. I am very happy with the decision and school that I chose.

Where did you get information about graduate school options? What would be the best way for our current students to find information about their options?
Talking with their advisor and other professors that might know them well, as well as online to actually check the schools that were suggested.

What advice would you give current students about courses they should take at UWEC before graduation if they're planning to enter a graduate program like yours?
Take as much Math as possible.

What advice would you give current students about other preparation they should complete before graduation if they're planning to enter a graduate program like yours?
Math Math Math

What were the biggest challenges you faced in your first year of graduate studies? Do you feel that your years at UWEC prepared you well to face these challenges?
The biggest challenge was Math. UWEC had prepared me very well in terms of analytical writing, as well as with the economic classes, however the math requirements for graduation from UWEC were much less than what is needed for graduate school.

What were the most important textbooks you used in your first year of graduate studies?
Romer (macroeconomics), Mittlehammer and Judge (econometrics), Green (econometrics), Varian (microeconomics)
