I joined the faculty at UW-Eau Claire in 1986 after teaching at Ohio State University for five years. In recent years I have done econometric research on the economics of immigrant assimilation, with a focus on the economic status of Hmong-Americans.
Two students working with me, Tua Lor and Elina Camane, created a web site that summarizes some of the early findings from our Hmong Population Research Project. For this work they won the first-place award in the Behavioral Sciences Division at Student Research Day, UW-Eau Claire, April 2001.
More recently I have worked with another exceptional student collaborator, Victoria Udalova. Our article "Who is Hmong: Questions and Evidence from the U.S. Census," was published in the Hmong Studies Journal in January 2006.
