Economics Department Honors Week Event

The Economics Department will be hosting a Student Debate on "The 2008 Economic Stimulus Package", on Wednesday, April 23, 4:30-5:30pm, HHH100. The students participating in this debate are: Robyn Fennig, Sarah Fisher, Aaron Brewster, Brandon Miller, Tony Angeles and jared Koerten.

Come find out more about the pros and cons of such an economic stimulus package as some of the best students in the economics department debate this timely issue. Refreshments to follow presentation.

Dr. Jerry Johnson Memorial Lecture

Ms. Sanjukta Chaudhuri, Ph.D. candidate from the City University of New York and a new UWEC Economics professor, will be presenting "Tradition, Economics & Gender Bias in India: Why do parents discriminate?" This event will take place on Friday, April 25, 4:00-5:00pm in SS100. Refreshments to follow presentation in SSS105.

GUEST LECTURE - University of Wisconsin Organ Procurement Organization

"Raising Awareness about Organ Donation & Transplant: The Gift of Life!" will be presented on Wednesday, October 10, 4:30-6:00pm in the Council Fire Room, Davies Center . "Exchange and Specialization as a Discovery Process" was presented on Thursday, October 4, 4:30pm in SSS306. Bart is an 1992 UWEC alum and is currently an Associate Professor of Economics at George Mason University.

Ms. Yan Li, Ph.D. candidate from the University of Iowa and newly hired faculty member in the Dept. of Economics, presented a lecture "Monetary Policy and Liquidity Effects" on Friday, April 27, from 3:15-4:15pm in SSS Rm. 100. Reception followed in SSS105.

The Student Economics Association and the Department of Economics sponsored a guest lecture by Scott Leitz, State Health Economist for MInnesota. The event took place on Thursday, April 12, from 3:45-4:45pm in Hibbard Rm. 100. Refreshments were served immediatley following the presentation.

Wisconsin Economics Association Meeting, October 20-21, 2006, Stevens Point, WI.

Drs. Eric Jamelske, Thomas Kemp, and Fredric Kolb organized and presented papers at the recent WEA Meetings in Stevens Point.

Dr .Thomas Kemp had three students present the following papers:
Aaron Olson - "An Analysis of Institution Building and Institution Enhancing Spending at the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire". 

Sarah Fisher - "Beliefs and Development of the April 23, 2007 economics dept. alumni - "Choice and Habit:  Testing Decision Making Using Experimentation”.

Beth Lutz presented on her collaborative work with Professor Jamelske and Professor Lori Bica of the UWEC Psychology Department - "An Evaluation of the USDA Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Pilot Program in Wisconsin Schools".

U.S. Health Care System Problems to be Topic
At Health Care Forum and Service-Learning Fair

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will present a Health Care
Forum and Service Learning Resource Fair from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13, in
the Council Fire Room of Davies Center.

Dr. Eugene Farley and Jim Kellerman of the Coalition for Wisconsin Health will present "The U.S. Health Care System: Problems and Possible Solutions" to examine the problems of the U.S. health care system and the uninsured. The presentation will be followed by a question/answer and discussion period. A reception and continued discussion will follow from 5:30 to 6 p.m.

The event is sponsored by the College of Nursing and Health Sciences and the College of Arts and Sciences in cooperation with the department of economics, the health care administration program and the Center for Service-Learning.
