Excellence in Science, Technology, Engineering And Mathematics (ESTEAM)
FACT SHEET
The ESTEAM scholarship program at UW-Eau Claire:
- Serves talented students who are United States citizens or permanent residents enrolled full time and majoring in selected fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics who also demonstrate financial need as defined by Department of Education guidelines. Eligible degree programs at UW-Eau Claire include:
- Biochemistry/Molecular Biology
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Computer Science/Software Engineering
- Geology
- Mathematics
- Physics
- Physics/Engineering dual degree
- Provides scholarships nominally $5000 per year towards tuition and fees, possibly more in exceptional cases. ESTEAM scholars may also be eligible for additional scholarships. The maximum award is determined by academic talent and financial need. The maximum award cannot exceed financial need. Scholarships are renewable with satisfactory academic progress.
- Provides scholars with faculty and peer mentoring.
- Coordinates research opportunities with faculty and internship opportunities with industry for ESTEAM scholars.
- Provides comprehensive career guidance, including awareness of various career opportunities, resume writing and interview skills.
- Is funded by a 4 year-$500,000 grant from the National Science Foundation, which recognizes UW-Eau Claire's outstanding faculty and programs in Science and Mathematics.
- Addresses the national shortage of workers trained in Science and Mathematics.
Applicants must be admitted to UW-Eau Claire, and declare a major in one of the degree programs listed above. It is anticipated that successful scholarship recipients will also minor in one of these programs.
All interested students are encouraged to apply. Typical scholarship recipients will be in the top 25% of their high school graduating class with ACT scores in the upper 20s.
ESTEAM Scholars are expected to make satisfactory progress towards a degree in one of the eligible programs, maintain a 3.0 grade-point average, and participate in ESTEAM program activities.
Application Procedures
Prospective freshmen or transfer applicants should begin by applying for admission to UW-Eau Claire.
To guarantee full consideration, all materials must be received by March 1. This includes:
- UW-Eau Claire application for admission
- Financial Aid information including a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

- ESTEAM scholarship application with two letters of reference
Currently enrolled UW-Eau Claire students should complete parts 2) and 3) above and submit the scholarship application to:
