Spring 2011 Veterans Project

An increasing number of individuals who have served our country as members of the armed forces are entering or returning to college. This has led to an increased interest in how to best serve those who are making the transition from military life to college life.

We would like to learn more about veterans’ experiences here at UWEC; however, we want to make sure that this information is collected in a way that is as respectful and non-intrusive as possible.

As a result, a small group of students and faculty would like to meet with student veterans to learn more about your suggestions for conducting research with veterans. For example, we are interested in finding out what types of questions are appropriate (or not appropriate) to ask; the best way to collect information (survey, interview, focus group, etc.); and the type of person you would be most comfortable talking with (faculty, student, veteran, non-veteran, etc.) about your experiences.

If you are interested in sharing your opinions regarding the best way to collect information from student veterans, please contact Leah Olson-McBride (olsonmcl@uwec.edu) or Paul Roadt (roadtpn@uwec.edu). In addition, members of the research team will be contacting student veterans, either in person or via email, in April 2011. Thank you.
