The First Offenders Course is offered to UWEC students who have received an underage drinking citation or would like to learn more about alcohol use in a group setting. Individuals who would like to attend the course for personal reasons will be required to complete a triage session with a CS counselor. The course is designed to address three main goals:
- Education about alcohol/substance use
- Build skills for moderate and safe use
- Reflection about personal use
The course will provide information so students can make educated/informed decisions about their use in the future. To abide by Eau Claire county requirements, this is an eight-hour course, and students must attend all 8 hours to receive credit for the course. All courses are run by a professional staff member. All students who have paid a fee and completed the program in its entirety will receive a certificate of completion.
To enroll in the class, please bring proof of UWEC student status and $40 (cash or check only) to Counseling Services, located at Old Library 2122. You will be asked to complete an enrollment form and you will be provided a handout regarding the class and expectations. You are welcome to complete these forms in advance and bring them with you to sign up. Students must sign up for the course prior to the course as same-day enrollment is not permitted.
NOTE: It is the student's responsibility to confirm with the court that this class meets the requirements for the court. The student is also responsible for submitting the class completion form to the court. UWEC Counseling Services is not responsible for providing confirmation of attendance to court systems.
