The Program

STUDY IN WINCHESTER!
The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and the University of Winchester have been exchanging students since 1981. Over 200 students from each institution have participated. As a UW-Eau Claire student at the University of Winchester, you will take classes from British professors, with British classmates. You will live in on-campus housing with British roommates. When you have finished your semester, you will be able to say that you truly experienced life in another culture.

THE LOCATION
The ancient capital of England, Winchester is centrally located in the South of England, not far from the coast. It is a beautiful city with a population of 60,000. Winchester boasts many fine, old buildings which remind students of its ancient past, yet it has a thriving modern cultural and commercial life. London is 65 miles away by train or bus.

THE UNIVERSITY
The University of Winchester is quite compact. Situated on West Hill, it is a 12-minute walk from the city center and a 10-minute walk from the train station. The university has over 5,500 students, most of whom are taking courses in education, humanities, and social sciences. It was founded in the nineteenth century as a teacher-training institution, but since the 1970’s it has diversified into other courses, including B.A. degrees in English, History, Drama, Design, and Technology.

HOUSING & MEALS
International students live in dormitories or apartment-style campus housing. You generally have single rooms and share common space with British or international roommates. You will have two meals/day in the university cafeteria. For your additional meal, you'll find groceries at Sainsburys, Somerfields and the farmers' market, as well as many restaurants in the city.
