Past students often meet friends through their host families. Other ways students have gotten involved is by joining gyms, taking dance or cooking
classes, and attending events at local universities nearby.
EXPLORE NICARAGUA & COSTA RICA!
The program includes academic field trips to different locations within Costa Rica and Nicaragua. A trip to San Jose is one of those trips.
Another part of the program is a 2-week service project in a rural community.
STUDENT COMMENTS
I don´t think that there is any possible way to sum up this experience in a few short sentences, but I feel that I have learned so much about a region that is largely forgotten by the world. I have found the culture and history of these people to be absolutely fascinating, and given the opportunity I wouldn´t hesitate to do it again. (Brian N.)
I think the best way to sum up this experience is just one word: ineffable, which means something so amazing you cannot put into words. You really have to experience it to understand how much of an amazing life experience this really is! (Jessi D.)
This experience has changed my life. I have grown in so much more then just in my academics. The friendships I've made and the experiences Ive been involved in are unforgettable. I wouldn't have changed a minute of my life here. It's been absolutely perfect. (Allie G.)
This program is just amazing because it is so personal. We live with host families and have small classes with our own teachers. Because of this we have been able to really experience the culture and get to know the countries and the people. Also, it is great to have the experience in two different countries- they are so very different and each beautiful in their own way. The part of the program that I enjoyed the most, however, was the service learning. We were really able to connect with that little community and learn from the people. It was the best thing I have experienced and it will stay with me forever. (Lindsay)
It is difficult to put into words my experiences in Costa Rica and Nicaragua. They have completely changed me as a person and enhanced my understanding of the important aspects of life. I fell in love with the culture, people, and language. Without this experience I would not have an understanding of the cultures I study for my major and these experiences put a face to all the studies we do at UWEC. (Amanda E.)
