Health and safety of students abroad are one of our top priorities. We will post any safety updates on our Web site. You can also read the health and safety advice we give to students in the current Study Abroad Handbook.
Insurance
The UW System has mandated that all students studying abroad enroll in CISI insurance, regardless of current coverage the student or family may have. The cost of this insurance has been built into the program cost. We enroll all students in CISI insurance and they receive a card from our office. You can read more about the insurance coverage here: http://www.culturalinsurance.com/uwis0066/. Some countries and programs have additional insurance required for students. Your son or daughter will receive that information in their program-specific orientation guide.
Emergencies
In the event of any emergency, the Center for International Education is in close contact with our partners abroad. Depending on the situation, our partners abroad will seek advice from local authorities and the U.S. Consulate or Embassy closest to the program.
Safety Precautions
The Center for International Education does not operate programs in countries under U.S. State Department Travel Warnings. We discuss specific safety precautions students should take while abroad at orientation and in the Study Abroad Handbook. We also register all students with the U.S. Embassy in the country where they will be studying.
