One of the most exciting areas of expertise developing in our department is Materials Science. In fact we are the site of the Materials Science center, largely a collaboration between Chemistry, Physics and Geology. One of our newer faculty, Dr. Kurt Wiegel is an organic chemist and polymer engineer. One of the major tools in polymer science is the differential scanning calorimeter (DSC), with support from the Petroleum Research Fund, UWEC and our Chemistry Foundation, Dr Wiegel has obtained a state of the art Mettler instrument.
