What path did you take to your current career, were there other jobs along the way?
Right after graduation I started work at a small PR firm, discovered that it wasn’t what I wanted to do for a career and was fortunate to hooked up with the ConAgra recruiting team. Since August of 2006 I’ve had several different positions with ConAgra and the opportunity to live in many different places (Pittsburgh, Dallas, Nashville, and Kansas City).
How did your liberal arts education at UW-Eau Claire help prepare you for your career?
Had a better working knowledge of some of the basic Microsoft Office programs especially Excel. If you’re heading into the business environment Excel makes the world go ‘round.
What advice do you have for UW-Eau Claire students to become successful in their own careers?
Keep an open mind. I was convinced that when I left UWEC is was heading straight into the PR & Advertising arena and after a few weeks I realized it wasn’t for me. Never in a million years would I have seen myself in a sales role, but I discovered not only that I had a talent for it, but loved the job as well.
