Candidates from the College of Nursing and Health Sciences received their degrees during the 9 a.m. commencement ceremony held December 21st. Seventy-nine students from both the traditional BSN program at Eau Claire and Marshfield and students from the BSN Completion Program participated in the graduation and convocation.

College to Lead Multi-Million Dollar Project to Increase Number of Nurse Educators

An initiative to increase the number of nurses in Wisconsin — led by the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in collaboration with UW-Madison, UW-Milwaukee and UW Oshkosh — has received funding through a newly created UW System incentive grant program. The nursing initiative was awarded $3.2 million to increase the number of nursing faculty and support nursing enrollments at the four participating UW System campuses and to mitigate projections for unprecedented shortages of registered nurses in Wisconsin.

Participants gathered at both the Eau Claire and Marshfield sites.
Identify, Recruit and Retain Nurse Educators Conference Held September 27-28th

Nurse educators from across the UW-System met at the Davies Center this weekend to listen, discuss and brainstorm strategies to increase the number of nurse educators available to teach in Wisconsin nursing programs. Led by Dr. Linda Young and facilitated by MJ Brukardt, participants came away with ideas that could be implemented on their individual campuses and statewide.
Susan Moch to be Inducted into Academy of Nursing Education

Dr. Susan Moch will be inducted into the seventh class of Fellows in the National League for Nursing's Academy of Nursing Education for her sustained and enduring contributions to nursing education.

Dr. Angela Stombaugh New Director for Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning

Dr. Stombaugh, associate professor of nursing and a nurse practitioner on staff at the Student Health Service at UW-Eau Claire, will begin July 1 in her post as CETL director. She will serve a three-year term.

The Identifying, Recruiting, and Retaining Nurse Educators proposal submitted by Dean Young and Dr. Susan Moch has been funded by the UW-System. It enables UW Baccalaureate/Graduate Nursing program representatives to gather to address the nurse educator shortage.
2013 Scholarship and Awards Dinner

Over 130 participants attended the 2013 Scholarship Awards Dinner where nearly 90,000 dollars in educational scholarships were presented to students who exhibit leadership, potential, demonstrate strong academic abilities and are active in community and professional organizations.

College receives 3M™ Littmann Electronic Stethoscopes

While in China, Dean Young met with Kenneth Yu, president of 3M China. As a result of their conversation, Mr. Yu donated three stethoscopes to the nursing program. The stethoscopes support telemedicine by recording and transmitting patient sound tracks via Bluetooth® technology.
Dr. Airth-Kindree Receives Public Health Nursing Award

Dr. Norah Airth-Kindree, assistant professor of nursing, received the 2013 Academic Linkages Mary Adelaide Nutting Award from the Wisconsin Public Health Association. The award recognizes exemplary linkages between academia and practice at a local, regional or state level that advance public health nursing practice.

Sister Joel Jacobi, OSF, celebrates her 75th Jubilee as a Hospital Sister of St. Francis, June 2013. The Jubilee marks the anniversary when a Sister makes First Profession of Vows. Sister Joel served as an Assistant Professor of Nursing, UW-Eau Claire, 1967-1968,1970-1995.
