Forum speaker, Dr. Carl Elliot presents to students and faculty

UW-Eau Claire Forum Series Speaker Dr. Carl Elliot visited the College on Wednesday, March 26th and presented A Clinical Trial, a Suicide and a Cover-Up: The Death of Dan Markingson to NRSG 257 and 345 students, graduate nursing students, and faculty. Over 120 individuals in four Distance Educaton (DE) classrooms attended the hour long presentation. With Dr. Elliot presenting in one classroom, DE Coordinator Lois Slattery connected the four DE classrooms (two in Eau Claire and two in Marshfield) using BlueJeans, a cloud-based video conferencing system. Students in all four rooms could see and hear Dr. Elliot, view his PowerPoint presentation, and ask questions live. When a student asked a question, the student camera in the room would track to them so Dr. Elliot and students at the other sites could more clearly see the person asking the question.

Dr. Elliott is professor in the Center for Bioethics and the department of pediatrics at the University of Minnesota, and an affiliate faculty member in the department of philosophy and the school of journalism and mass communications. His UW-Eau Claire Forum presentation entitled White Coat, Black Hat: Adventures on the Dark Side of Medicine was presented at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2014 in Schofield Hall.
