Why did you decide to come to UW-Eau Claire for college?
I chose to come to Eau Claire because of the respected reputation and vast resources available to students through the College of Business.
Why did you pick the major you selected?
I had no idea what I wanted to major in until sophomore year when I took Dr. Knutson’s Acct 201 class. Accounting just clicked for me, and I knew it was something I would enjoy doing.
Have you completed an internship or completed a service-learning experience?
I volunteered as an Income Tax Assistant (VITA) at a low income, senior living facility. I also interned with Ernst & Young in the Tax division of their Financial Services Office (FSO) in New York City. Both of these experiences allowed me to bring the knowledge I had from the classroom and apply it to real world situations. After my internship with Ernst & Young, I was offered a full-time position for after graduation which I accepted.
Have you participated in the National Student Exchange?
I participated in the National Student Exchange to Queens College in New York. I selected this program because it allowed me to pursue career opportunities in the business capital of the world, while paying in-state tuition to Eau Claire. I would definitely recommend every student take advantage of this incredible opportunity, especially if you have an interest in relocating after graduation.
Have you held a leadership position in a student organization while you have been at UW-Eau Claire?
I have been on the Promotions and Social Committees for the Student Accounting Society (SAS) since sophomore year. Holding leadership positions for organizations has really improved my communication skills, which is what set me apart during interviews and networking.
What does success mean to you? How has UW-Eau Claire College of Business prepared you for success?
To me, success is when you are able to achieve happiness through the accomplishment of your goals. The College of Business’s unique and diverse curriculum has provided me not only with the knowledge, but also the skills, to do just that.
What tips and/or words of advice do you have for high school students coming to Eau Claire?
I would recommend students get involved in organizations right away. By joining clubs you will have numerous opportunities to attend presentations and gain insight into various industries. These experiences can help you determine what fields interest you the most or what majors you should pursue.
