Why did you decide to come to UW-Eau Claire for college?
After graduating from the Aveda Institute in cosmetology and working in the beauty industry for three years, I knew that I wanted to continue my education. I began pursing my degree in marketing at a community college in Minnesota. I was looking to transfer to a university that would offer me the individual attention that I need, but would also exemplify diversity and uniqueness. After attending University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, I knew that it was everything I was looking for and it exceeded all of my expectations.
Why did you pick the major you selected?
I knew that I wanted a major that would encompass my passion for business and would allow me to demonstrate my creativity. Initially I had a tough time deciding on my major, and then I was introduced to the marketing program by my transfer advisor at the university. After taking a few of the business core classes, I was so impressed with the professors that I couldn’t wait to learn more. Within the first week of classes, the professors knew all of the students by name, and truly cared about all of the attendees at the University. It makes you feel right at home.
Have you completed an internship or completed a service-learning experience?
Throughout college I have been lucky enough to use my cosmetology degree to maintain a full-time job at Estilo Salon as a stylist/make-up artist as well as implement Estilo’s advertising and marketing efforts. Being able to use the skills that I have learned in the classroom and apply them to my job every day has been incredible. I also have volunteered at the American Cancer Society where I learned how dedicated the staff was at making a difference and truly changing people’s lives.
What does success mean to you? How has UW-Eau Claire College of Business prepared you for success?
I believe that success means something different to each individual. To me success means overcoming challenges on the way to achieving the goals that I set for myself. The professors and staff at UW-Eau Claire push you to do your best and only want you to succeed. They have given me guidance, taken time out of their day for individual meetings, and have shared their personal experiences that have helped me along my way.
