Why did you decide to come to UW-Eau Claire for college?
I heard that UW-Eau Claire had a strong accounting program and the College of Business was accredited. I felt that UW-Eau Claire would be the perfect fit for me to transition from a student to my career.
Why did you pick the major you selected?
In high school I took an accounting class and I thought the material was interesting. After taking my first accounting class, I knew I wanted to pursue an accounting degree and pass my CPA exam. The accounting major is a great choice because it provides you a broad business education that will prepare you for your lifelong career.
Have you completed an internship or completed a service-learning experience?
I am currently working at Wipfli in Eau Claire, WI. The firm offers a “blended experience” so that interns get both audit and tax opportunities. Currently, I am working with financial institutions to prepare their financial statements. I am glad that I decided to do an internship to gain first-hand experience in the field!
What does success mean to you? How has UW-Eau Claire College of Business prepared you for success?
Success is when you achieve the goals you set for yourself. In the future, my goals are to graduate with honors, obtain a staff accounting position, and pass my CPA exam. UW-Eau Claire has prepared me with the necessary accounting and business communication skills for my future.
In your opinion, what role did/does CADE play in helping you achieve personal, academic and/or career success?
I was involved in CADE as an academic focus group mentor. As a mentor, I helped other students build time management skills and answered any of their course material questions. It was rewarding to help others and I also reviewed my beginning accounting skills each session!
What tips and/or words of advice do you have for high school students coming to Eau Claire?
I would recommend setting a college plan for yourself by planning which classes you should take, how an internship/study abroad experience will fit in your plan, and what goals you have for college.
